7 Powerful Partner Exercises for Valentine's Day

Ditch the romantic movies and picnics in the park this Valentine’s Day – it's time to get your heart rate up instead. (No, not like that!) To put it in rhyme for Hallmark's sake: roses are red, violets are blue, forget the clichés, it's time for a workout or two – we’ve got a few fun, trust-building, circulation-boosting exercises to improve your day, both mentally and physically.

Valentine's Day is all about celebrating love, and what better way to do it than by breaking a sweat together? Not only does exercising together promote physical wellbeing, but it also strengthens the emotional connection between couples. Here’s how.

Shared Goals, Stronger Bonds: Embarking on a fitness journey together allows couples to set shared health and wellness goals. Whether it's aiming for a certain number of workouts per week or conquering a specific exercise, working towards common objectives fosters a sense of unity and collaboration.

Increased Motivation: Having a workout partner provides a built-in support system. On days when motivation is lacking, your significant other can serve as a source of encouragement and accountability. The shared commitment to a healthier lifestyle becomes a powerful motivator, propelling both partners towards success.

Quality Time, Quality Connection: In our fast-paced lives, finding quality time with loved ones can be a challenge. Exercising together not only ensures dedicated time but also creates an environment for meaningful conversations and shared experiences. Use this opportunity to catch up, laugh, and strengthen your emotional connection.

Boosted Intimacy: Exercise has been linked to increased levels of serotonin and endorphins, often referred to as "feel-good" hormones. These hormonal boosts contribute to a positive mood, reduced stress, and heightened feelings of closeness and intimacy between partners.

Fun and Playfulness: Valentine's Day workouts can be a playful and enjoyable way to spend time together. From trying out new exercises to incorporating laughter into your routine, the shared experience adds an element of fun, making the workout feel less like a chore and more like a celebration.

Building Trust and Communication: Certain partner exercises, like trust falls or assisted stretches, require a level of trust and communication that extends beyond the physical aspect. These activities enhance the understanding and connection between partners, fostering a deeper sense of trust and teamwork.

Lasting Memories: Valentine's Day is all about creating memorable moments. A shared workout experience becomes a unique and enduring memory. Whether you conquer a challenging routine or simply enjoy the process of learning together, these memories contribute to a strong and resilient relationship.

Here's a series of partner exercises perfect for Valentine's Day, ensuring you and your loved one have a fun and active celebration.

Love Lunges

Start facing each other, holding hands. Take a step forward with one foot into a lunge while your partner steps backward into a lunge. As you both lunge, maintain eye contact and feel the burn together. Alternate legs and repeat for a set of 12 lunges on each leg.

Sweetheart Squats

Stand facing each other with your feet shoulder-width apart. Hold hands and lower into a squat simultaneously. Make it more challenging by adding a little jump at the end of each squat. Aim for 3 sets of 15 squats.

Passionate Planks

Get into a plank position facing each other. Reach out and high-five your partner with opposite hands, engaging your core. This not only adds a fun element but also challenges your stability. Complete 3 sets of 20 high-fives.

Tandem Tricep Dips

Sit on the floor facing each other, with your knees bent and feet flat on the ground. Place your hands behind you, fingers pointing toward your partner. Lift your hips off the ground, and as you both dip down, your triceps will get a fantastic workout. Aim for 3 sets of 12 dips.

Heart-Rate-Raising Cardio: Partner Sprints

Head to the great outdoors or a spacious living room. One partner sprints in place while the other performs a set of jumping jacks or burpees. Switch roles and keep alternating for 10 minutes to get your hearts racing.

Trust Falls and Planks

Stand facing each other. One partner falls backward into a trust fall while the other catches and gently lowers them to the ground. Switch positions and incorporate a plank at the end for an extra challenge. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 trust falls.

Couples Yoga Poses

End your workout with some calming and intimate yoga poses. Try partner stretches like the Seated Forward Bend, where you sit facing each other with legs spread and reach for each other's hands.

Remember:

  • Prioritise proper form over intensity.
  • Choose activities that cater to both partners' fitness levels and preferences.
  • Communicate openly to ensure a safe and enjoyable workout.
  • Celebrate each other's achievements, no matter how small.

Whether you're fitness enthusiasts or just starting your wellness journey together, these partner exercises will not only boost your physical health but also create lasting memories of a unique and active Valentine's Day celebration. Cheers to love, laughter, and lunges!
